Links: NBA Friday

by Lang Whitaker

Time for NBA Friday again. Last week (ok, it was just Wednesday) we caught up with the Ron Artest painting. This week’s team is the New Jersey Nets, and today’s player is Richard Jefferson.

Our illustrator in residence, Joel Kimmel, writes, “I’ve finished up the piece for the New Jersey Nets for Friday. I actually started it a couple weeks ago before Kidd was traded and decided to paint Richard Jefferson since he’s having a pretty solid season. I’ve wanted to do an illustration involving a swamp for a few months and since the Nets actually play basketball in one, I figured I could work around that. It also gave me another opportunity to paint a couple birds which I enjoy, and some interesting trees.”

Hey Joel, not only do the Nets play basketball in a swamp, their organization is a swamp!

“Next week’s team is the Chicago Bulls,” Joel adds. “I’m a huge Michael Jordan fan, and I’ve probably drawn or painted him 20 times by now so I think I’ll stick to a current player on this one despite the urge to draw MJ again.”

That’s what’s up. If you guys have any suggestions for Joel, as always, leave them in the comments section below…

• This has nothing to do with basketball, but I thought this was a hilarious essay from this week’s New Yorker. And if you’re too young to remember Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts back in the day on “Saturday Night Live,” click here and educate yourself.

One of my favorites is “Better not take a dog on the space shuttle, because if he sticks his head out when you’re coming home, his face might burn up.”

Truth.

• Another site that’s been circulating widely around the ‘net the last few weeks has been Stuff White People Like. Someone sent it to me about a month ago, and I immediately forwarded it to Khalid, of course, and then bookmarked it, intending to link to it but eventually forgetting about it. I’ve seen it mentioned elsewhere a few times lately, so I figured I’d link it up today. Funny stuff there. Sam spent a solid two hours yesterday laughing out loud at his desk as he read through it editing SLAMonline.com.

I’ve gotta keep it short today. Have a great weekend everyone and see you back here on Monday…
