Checking in on the SLAMonline NCAA bracket

By Sam Rubenstein

The NCAA tourney gets restarted tonight with the Sweet 16, and it’s time to take a look at our standings. Yes, I am in 210th place in the main bracket and Ben Osborne is even further down, but this isn’t about us, it’s about everyone.

Spartdog is in first overall, so if you are trying to take his spot you are cheering for Memphis to beat Texas A&M tonight. Big Nick Da Beast has the advantage of UNLV being in his elite eight. There really isn’t much variation at the top. Memphis winning would change everything, which is kind of strange because Memphis is the 2 seed and Texas A&M is the 3. A&M is one of the trendy sleepers to get to the Final 4, and Memphis is coached by Calipari who plays the disrespect card as well as anyone. Memphis had a much easier game than what A&M had to go through against SOSsssA (in dramatic Gus Johnson flourish voice) and Louisville, but Memphis is on shorter rest. If Memphis were to win, then MS427 would be in phenomenal shape and take over. Then again, the top brackets in our standings all seem to have the triple threat of UCLA, Kansas, and Ohio State avoiding upsets in tonight’s action.

If you are in it to win it without any loyalty, you are probably cheering for one of those three upsets, as well as Memphis over Texas A&M. Just so you know, for your viewing pleasure.

And I’d like to offer my congratulations to the freshly engaged Eli Manning. We’ve had a contentious relationship as complete stranger and superstar QB, but now that time has passed and I’ve cooled down, I wish him well. This would normally be the time for a backhanded complement, but I’ll pass.
