Coach Izzo Strikes Again

by Antonio Curro – Midwest PUNKS Editor

Head Coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State have always made in-state talent a priority and this week was no exception—two-sport star Dion Sims of St. Mary’s Prep School in Michigan verbally committed to play basketball and football for the Spartans.

Dion SimsThe 6-6 SF from Michigan is an explosive combination of power and athleticism. Sims drew the attention of high major football and basketball programs across the country over the last couple of years. While he has the physical gifts to be a major player, his skills are still raw. Of course, there’s plenty of room to improve at the next level, and Coach Izzo and the Spartans stand to benefit from the improvement.

Sims is a great catch for the Spartans as he is one of the top pure athletes in the 2009 Class and brings to the table the physical presence, athleticism, and pure toughness that has become of the trademark of Michigan State basketball over the years.

Sims played for the R.E.A.C.H. Legends Grassroots travel program based out of Michigan.
