Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery Demanded Dan Dakich Apologize For Calling Hawkeyes Player ‘Gutless’

Here’s one of the weirdest stories that you will hear today: during Iowa’s 82-50 loss on Tuesday to Wisconsin, Hawkeyes center Adam Woodbury appeared to poke two Badgers players—big man Frank Kaminsky and forward Nigel Hayes—in the eyes. As you can see from this Vine, it looks like he got a piece of both guys.

During the game, ESPN’s Dan Dakich called out Woodbury for his actions, saying that he was “gutless” and “cowardly” and that poking someone in the eye is “complete garbage.” Now, Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery is demanding that Dakich apologize. The whole thing is just… weird.

From ESPN:

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery wants ESPN color commentator Dan Dakich to apologize to Hawkeyes center Adam Woodbury for calling him “gutless” and “cowardly” during the broadcast of an 82-50 loss to Wisconsin.

Dakich called out Woodbury after the center appeared to poke the eyes of Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes and Frank Kaminsky in separate incidents Tuesday.

McCaffery defended his player while blasting Dakich during the taping of his weekly radio show on Wednesday. A message seeking comment from Dakich was not immediately returned.
