Scenes from Kansas Jayhawks vs Florida Gators (PHOTOS)

We recently caught up with photographer Ryan Nicholson, the man responsible for the shots you see in the gallery above as well as the Ladies Who Hoop series published last month. Having never previously photographed a college basketball game, Nicholson entered new territory on Friday night, when he stepped into Allen Fieldhouse as a member of the media to catch all the action of the Kansas Jayhawks vs Florida Gators game. Scroll through the scenes of the Jayhawks’ 71-65 win over the Gators up top, and read what Nicholson wrote of his experience below.

“I had never photographed a college basketball game before so to have my first experience be at one of the most historic arenas in all of college basketball was really cool. Beyond the game itself, it was interesting for me to watch the other photographers (who obviously shoot games there all the time) and to see the different equipment that they were using and watch them work. I noticed they all shot mostly vertically, whereas I was shooting exclusively horizontal, they all had much longer telephoto lenses than I was using…I am sure they were wondering what I was up to.

Overall the experience was great. I was really impressed by the atmosphere at the arena. The fans were obviously passionate and loud (particularly the students), but they at least from my vantage point were respectful. I went up into the student section before the game and the students were great. I can see why KU has lost so few games at Allen Fieldhouse over the years. The fans and atmosphere are truly a home court advantage for that program.”
