Kentucky Lands Top-20 Prospect Alex Poythress

It seems like for the past three years Kentucky has landed the top recruiting class, and by the looks of it, the 2012 class might keep the streak going. On Wednesday, Alex Poythress, the top player in state of Tennessee and the 17th ranked senior in the SLAM Fresh 50-2012, announced that he will be joining blue-chippers Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley in Lexington next fall. From the Tennessean: “Northeast’s Alex Poythress announced today he was signing with Kentucky over Vanderbilt, Memphis and Florida… The 6-foot-8 senior forward had over 15 offers, including Duke, defending national champion Connecticut, Ohio State, Tennessee, Louisville and Texas. Vanderbilt was the first school to offer him a scholarship. He averaged 22.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, 1.4 steals and 1.2 assists for Northeast (15-15) last season. Poythress has come a long way since getting cut from his middle school basketball team in sixth grade.”
