Washington Lands Commitment From Top Ranked SF Michael Porter Jr

When the father of the top ranked small forward in the nation (and candidate for top overall prospect in the Class of 2017) Michael Porter Jr accepted an assistant coaching position with the Washington Huskies men’s basketball program two months ago, the automatic assumption within those in the recruiting world was that the blue chipper would end up in Seattle as well. Today, that belief was confirmed when Porter Jr announced via social media that he plans to play collegiately for the Huskies in 2017. He is the third member of the Porter family that is expected to be on campus. In August of 2015, his younger brother, Jontay, a 6-9 power forward in the Class of 2018, announced on twitter his commitment to Washington as well.

More info below from the Seattle Times:

The Washington men’s basketball team landed perhaps the biggest recruit in the history of the program when Michael Porter Jr., a five-star 2017 prospect, pledged to play for the Huskies.

Porter, 6-foot-10, 210-pound forward, is considered a top-five recruit.

Rivals.com has him ranked No. 2 nationally. He’s fourth on ESPN’s list and fifth in on Scout.com’s ranking. ESPN and Scout also consider him the top small forward in the country.

Recently, Porter included Indiana, Virginia, Oklahoma and Missouri among his final five choices after eliminating Duke and Kansas.

Porter is the latest addition to Washington’s 2017 recruiting class that includes Jaylen Nowell, a four-star guard at Garfield High and Blake Harris, a three-star guard from North Carolina.

Porter also joins his father Michael Porter Sr., a recently hired UW assistant. Porter’s brother Jontay, a 2018 recruit, has verbally committed to the Huskies.

The Porter brothers moved to Seattle with their father and will play at Nathan Hale High during the 2016-17 season for new head coach Brandon Roy, the former Huskies great and NBA star.
