SLAM National Post-Grad Championship Slated For March 17-19

We have partnered with Montverde Academy, a national powerhouse that has produced top NBA Draft picks D’Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers and Ben Simmons of the Philadelphia 76ers over the last couple of years, to launch the inaugural SLAM National Post-Grad Championship. To be held next year in March on Montverde’s Florida campus, it will converge the top post-graduate programs from around the country for a season-ending national tourney. See below for the official announcement:

Montverde Academy in Montverde, FL will host the first SLAM National Post-Grad Championship from March 17 – 19, 2017. The top eight high-school basketball teams from all over the nation will compete to be named the inaugural SLAM champion.

Montverde Academy is partnering with SLAM magazine to present the championship. SLAM was founded in 1994 as the “in-your-face basketball magazine,” covering all things hoop-related, from the National Basketball Association (NBA), college basketball and high school hoops to old-school stories, shoes, streetball and the fashion of the game. Twenty two years later, SLAM is still the number one outlet for all things that matter in the world of basketball. From Kobe and LeBron to Iverson and Durant, SLAM brings the reader face-to-face with their favorite players, and slamonline.com offers breaking news in real time.

Franklyn Calle, Associate Editor at SLAM Magazine, has agreed to head up the team selection committee and act as a spokesperson for the tournament. At SLAM, Calle is responsible for overseeing high school and recruiting coverage. In recent years he’s produced pre-NBA cover stories on rising stars like Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons, Minnesota Timberwolves’ Andrew Wiggins and Milwaukee Bucks’ Jabari Parker.

“SLAM Magazine and I couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with Montverde Academy, a renowned institution for its prestige in the classroom and in athletics, to bring the top post-graduate basketball programs in the country under one roof for a season-ending national tournament,” said Calle. “This talent-stacked event will serve as one of the premier postseason showcases.”

Information on ticket sales and team-selection will be forthcoming as tournament preparations progress.
