Approximately 120 teams from all over the state of Florida are expected to converge in Palm Beach County for the Wellington (FL) March Madness tourney on March 4th to the 6th. The 12- year-old showcase, which has sold out for the past 9 years, will feature boys’ teams ranging from grades 3rd to 11th. Among the players slated to attend is 6-10 7th grade sensation Bright Okongwu, who last month USA Today referred to as the potential “breakout star of the class of 2021.” Having arrived to the United States from Nigeria last July, the 250-pound big man attends Calvary Christian in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he has begun drawing a national buzz, including this MaxPreps piece that questions whether he might be “high school basketball’s next big thing.” Even more incredible is that the notoriety has emerged despite the 13-year-old not being eligible to play high school basketball this season, meaning the Wellington tourney will be among the first places to catch the youngster this year. Check out the flyer below for more information on the event.
