Elena Delle Donne To Miss 2013 WNBA All-Star Game

Yesterday, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner was ruled out of the 2013 WNBA All-Star game due to a sprained left knee. Today, news came down that Chicago Sky forward Elena Delle Donne will also miss the All-Star game due to a concussion that she suffered on Wednesday against the Washington Mystics. With Tulsa Shock guard Skylar Diggins not being selected to participate in Saturday’s game, the league’s “3 to See” will be watching from the sidelines. Delle Donne was the leading vote getter by fans among all players, making her the first rookie in league history to hold that honor. She will be replaced by Atlanta Dream center Erika de Souza. Per the Chicago Daily Herald: “Atlanta Dream center Erika de Souza will replace injured Eastern Conference All-Star Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky in the WNBA All-Star Game, league officials announced Friday. Delle Donne, the league’s No. 2 overall draft pick in April, is the first WNBA rookie to earn the top spot among vote-getters in all-star fan-voting, but she will be unable to attend the game after suffering a concussion on Wednesday during the Sky’s road loss to the Washington Mystics. WNBA President Laurel J. Richie selected de Souza as Delle Donne’s replacement for the East squad. Eastern Conference head coach Lin Dunn will select a player to start in place of Delle Donne.”
