The Return Of The Wade 1

by Chris O’Leary

One of the best things about a signature shoe—some would call it the concept of the shoe, even—is that you can wear what your favorite player is wearing. For a large chunk of his MVP-caliber season, Dwyane Wade has been the exception to that rule. D-Wade appears to have bailed on his Wade 4 shoe this year, in favor of the first shoe Converse gave him, the Wade 1.

Maybe the fact that Converse has now re-issued the Wade 1 is an indication of just how good Wade is playing this season. Sitting exclusively on shelves at Champs, the Wade 1 is back in limited quantities, with some minor modifications to the original sneaker. From Converse:

“The WADE 1 features “.08” displayed on the inner heel to reflect two game-winning shots in his first two NBA seasons. His number “3” is shown on the shoelace eyelets and his name appears on the back and top of the shoe. Functionally, the shoe enables Wade to play at the top of his game with a Foot Strike Management System, internal sock liner and heel stabilizers.”

The shoe has a $90 price tag.

Wade 1Another bit of sneaker info for anyone who had their eyes on Nike’s Shox BB4 re-release. The release date has been pushed back to May 16, according to Foot Locker’s blog.

Also dropping late April/early May will be the shoes that JR Smith wore at this year’s dunk contest in Phoenix: Nike’s Zoom Flight Club. There will be five colorways releasing on them, with exclusives making their ways to Foot Locker, Champs and Foot Action. The white/black/purple will hit stores in June and the shoe will cost $110.
