Nik Stauskas is in the middle of a breakout season for the 21st-ranked Michigan Wolverines. While he isn’t Joel Embiid, his name has been flying up NBA Draft boards recent weeks, and there is talk of the Canada native being a first-round pick in the 2014 Draft.

However, Stauskas apologized yesterday for comments his father made about the Draft. According to his father, “[Stauskas] knows all he has to do is keep his nose to the grindstone for another couple of months, and there’s a really good possibility he might be able to go pro.”

From ESPN:

After Stauskas tied a career-high with 26 points in a win against Iowa, he said his father was speaking out of turn.

“I apologize for my father’s comments, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Nik Stauskas said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “I haven’t really thought anything about that yet and we’ll just address that after the season.”

While he may be getting a bit ahead of himself, Stauskas’s father may have a point. The sophomore guard is averaging a Big Ten leading 18.5 points per game, along with 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists a night. All three statistics are significantly up from last season.
