With New York City having the largest public school system in America, it’s safe to say that winning a city title–especially in its top-tier AA division–can be just as difficult as in any other part of the country. And that’s regardless of how high/low the competition level is on any given year. But for a small school like Wings Academy, the odds were even more so against them, especially when standing in their way was a large powerhouse program like Benjamin Cardozo HS of Queens this past March. Victory Journal captured all the drama this year, as Wings prepared for and took on the defending city champs at Madison Square Garden in search for the school’s first city championship.
