J.R. Smith Drills Halfcourt Shot to Win $30K for Military Member (VIDEO)

The Cleveland Cavaliers held their annual Wine & Gold scrimmage Monday night at Quicken Loans Arena, and J.R. Smith made one fan in particular very happy.

Smith swished a halfcourt jumper to win $30,000 for a member of the armed forces who was in attendance.

For what it’s worth, Gold beat Wine 55-49.

Per the Akron Beacon Journal:

“We accomplished one thing and that is we did not get hurt and we played hard,” LeBron James said. […] James started for Wine alongside Mo Williams, J.R. Smith, James Jones and Timofey Mozgov. That will likely look fairly similar to the lineup the Cavs use in the Oct. 27 season opener at the Chicago Bulls, although Love should replace Jones by then.

Williams received a roaring ovation his first night back, as did the injured guys such as Irving and Love. James didn’t play in the abbreviated second half, but played to the crowd during pregame stretching and during the in-game entertainment. He flung a towel into the crowd at one point, nearing sparking a brawl — among females. […] “It’s just fun to get back on the court with our home fans,” James said. “To see them turn out tonight like they did on a Monday night for a scrimmage is unbelievable.”

James played Monday night in his No. 6 practice jersey, but dismissed any thought of changing numbers again. He’ll still wear No. 23 this season.
