Josh Smith Taunts Hawks Fans and Calls Them ‘Bandwagoners’ (VIDEO)

Former Hawk and Atlanta native Josh Smith received a chilly reception in his hometown Tuesday night, as Hawks fans relentlessly booed the Rockets forward.

Houston blew an 18-point lead, as the Hawks mounted a furious comeback to take the game 104-96 for their fifth straight win (which clinched the franchise’s eighth consecutive Playoff spot.).

Smith gleefully played up the villain role with the crowd, and dismissed the Hawks faithful as “bandwagoners.”

Per the Houston Chronicle and AJC:

“It’s not emotional to hear that,” Smith said. “You expect a better outcome. I was here for nine years, and all I did was positive things in the community and with the team. Those fans are fickle and band wagoners so it doesn’t mean anything to me.”

“It was fun to see my old teammates and congratulate them on their season,” Smith said. “It was fun to come in and play against a great opponent.”

“It was chippy and that was what really got us going,” DeMarre Carroll said. “If they were quiet and just did what they did, they wouldn’t have woke up Jeff Teague, they wouldn’t have woke up myself, they wouldn’t have woke up Paul (Millsap). I think that’s when it got chippy and Josh Smith was doing all this.” […] “Oh, it was chippy,” Al Horford said. “Two of my former teammates, Smoove (Smith) and (Florida’s) Corey (Brewer). Smoove doesn’t really talk trash but Corey on the other hand was talking to me the whole time. At the end, I kind of gave him a look and he wasn’t too happy.”
