Julius Randle had 20 points and 14 rebounds, and D’Angelo Russell added 17 points for the L.A. Lakers during their 117-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

The young Lakers built a 21-point lead in the third quarter and hung on to shock the Warriors at Staples Center for the third consecutive season.

In addition to Randle and Russell, the Lakers got double-figure scoring outputs from Brandon Ingram, Lou Williams, Larry Nance and Nick Young.

More from the L.A. Times:

In the postgame locker room, they shouted “I love basketball,” a mantra introduced by their most veteran player, Metta World Peace. They laughed, they felt the joy that comes with winning — that feeling with which Walton wants them to become familiar.

They didn’t talk about the thing nagging at Walton’s mind — the overconfidence this kind of win can breed.

“Not yet,” Lakers guard Lou Williams said, laughing. “No buzz kills tonight.”
