Post Up: Rolling Thunder

The World Series closed with the Cubs winning in an epic Game 7, and ending a 108-year championship drought—the longest streak of futility in American sports history. The game came down to the final at-bat, and NBA players had plenty to say about the game.

But of course, there was basketball being played as well. So let’s run through last night’s slate of games:

Raptors 113 (3-1), Wizards 103 (0-3)

DeMar DeRozan again was masterful, dropping another 40-piece even after going to the locker room with an ankle injury. He’s now scored over 30 points in four straight games to start the season, placing him in the elite company of MJ, Kobe and KD.

76ers 93 (0-4), Hornets 109 (3-1)

Nic Batum went off for 17 of his 20 points in the third quarter as the Hornets outscored the 76ers 39-20 in the period. Kemba Walker had a game-high 22 points for Charlotte.

Pistons 101 (3-2), Nets 109 (2-3)

Brooklyn shot 70.7 percent in the first half. Brook Lopez made 4 threes in the first half. Just because we’v never seen it before doesn’t mean it’s not a great recipe for success. There was cause for concern in Brooklyn, however. Jeremy Lin, who’s balling this season, went to the locker room with an apparent hamstring injury.

Rockets 118 (3-2), Knicks 99 (1-3)

It was a good ‘ole fashioned blowout at the Garden. James Harden made some history, becoming the first player with back-to-back games of at least 30 points and 15 assists since some guy named Earvin in 1986. Oh, and thanks for the laughs, Sam Dekker.

Lakers 123 (2-3), Hawks 116 (3-1)

After lossing three straight games, the Lakers were tired of losing. So what did they do? Handed the Hawks their first loss of the season in ATL. D’Angelo Russell had 23 points and 8 assists for the Lakers.

Pelicans 83 (0-5), Grizzlies 89 (3-2) (OT)

It wasn’t pretty, but Memphis was finally able to outscore New Orleans 14-8 in OT to grab the win. The Pelicans, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win, and although, they’re missing Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans, you have to think that head coach Alvin Gentry’s seat is starting to get warm.

Bulls 100 (3-1), Celtics 107 (3-1)

Al Horford was out with a concussion. Jae Crowder left the game with an ankle injury. But Boston was still able to come away with an impressive victory over the Bulls. Isaiah Thomas (23 and 10) and Marcus Smart came up with key buckets in the clutch. Amir Johnson was absolutely unconscious in the third quarter, scoring 16 of his 23 points (included 4 three-pointers).

Mavs 81 (0-4), Jazz 97 (3-2)

George Hill continued his impressive play, scoring a game-high 25 points. After an ugly first quarter by both teams, the Jazz took the lead for good, hitting 49.2 percent the rest of the way.

Blazers 115 (2-3), Suns 118 (1-4) (OT)

When Phoenix needed a bucket, they got Eric Bledsoe the ball and he delivered. Not only did he score a go-ahead basket with 1.1 seconds left in regulation, but he nailed a fade-away game-winner in OT.

And we’d be remiss not to sneak this vicious Brandon Knight poster in here somewhere:

Thunder 85 (4-0), Clippers 83 (3-1)

Russell Westbrook (35 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) didn’t finish with a triple-double, and he didn’t need one. Russ came up big in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in the final frame, as he led the exciting OKC squad to its fourth straight W to open the season.
