Report: Arron Afflalo to Enter Free Agency This Summer

Portland Trail Blazers guard Arron Afflalo will reportedly opt out his deal and test free agency this summer.

The 29-year-old Afflalo was acquired by Portland at the NBA trade deadline last season, in exchange for Thomas Robinson, Will Barton, Victor Claver and a lottery-protected first-round draft pick.

Blazers guard Wesley Matthews will also be an unrestricted free agent as of July 1.

Per The Oregonian:

Afflalo was scheduled to make $7.75 million next season, the last of a five-year deal worth a reported $36.7 million he signed heading into the 2011-12 season.

… Less than three weeks after Afflalo’s arrival, starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews ruptured his Achilles’ tendon, sapping the depth Afflalo seemed to provide. And in the end, Afflalo struggled to fit in with the Blazers’ starting lineup and adjust to his new surroundings in Portland. He averaged 10.6 points and 2.7 rebounds, while shooting 41.4 percent from the field, in 29 so-so games with the Blazers.

Making matters worse, Afflalo suffered a strained right shoulder during the final week of the regular season and played in just three ineffective games in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs as the Blazers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies in five games.
