Report: Josh Smith Signs 3-Month, $1.5 Million Contract to Play in China

Josh Smith did not land on an NBA roster in the offseason and is now heading to China to play for the Sichuan Whales. According to international hoops reporter David Pick, Smith has signed a $1.5 million deal to play for the Chinese Basketball Association franchise for three months:

Smith, who will turn 31-years-old in December, signed a 4-year, $54 million contract with the Pistons in 2014 and will remain on Detroit’s payroll through 2020. After being released by Detroit, Smith played on minimum a minimum contract with the Rockets and the Clippers. The 12-year NBA vet has career averages of 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.
