Add a Sprained Ankle to J.O.’s Injury Woes

by Marcel Mutoni

As if things weren’t bad enough for Jermaine O’Neal, who curiously (read: stupidly) decided to play on a bum knee this past Sunday against the Celtics, and was knocked out of the game 14 minutes into the proceedings.

Everyone saw him dejectedly limp off the floor and automatically assumed the knee had given out on him again, but it turns out that he actually had an additional problem.

From the Toronto Star:

The 6-foot-11 veteran sprained his left ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Celtics. He hasn’t practised since, but as if to prove the veracity of his claims, he lifted the leg of his sweat pants for the TV cameras yesterday, revealing a left knee that looked, to the untrained eye, relatively free of swelling and a left ankle that appeared swollen.

“I think you should show (the knee on TV) so people can look at it,” said O’Neal. “It looks really good, but the ankle’s a little fat right now.”

Nice try, Jermaine. The Raptors could show fans in Toronto video evidence of O’Neal effortlessly throwing down 360’s and they still wouldn’t have any faith in that knee.
