NBA players and event alumni Brandon Jennings and Kemba Walker will coach the Raymond Lewis and Marques Johnson squads at the Under Armour Elite 24 this weekend. The teams, named after Los Angeles playground legends in the tradition of the event, will each be comprised of 12 of the nation’s leading high school boys’ basketball players
Jennings, a point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, dished out an event record 23 assists in the 2007 Elite 24. He will be assisted by the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Derrick Williams, the No. 2 pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, to lead the Raymond Lewis squad.
Walker, now with the Charlotte Bobcats, made 7-of-8 field goals en route to 16 points in the same 2007 Elite 24 game. He will team with DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers to lead the Marques Johnson squad. Johnson participated in the inaugural Elite 24 event at Harlem’s famed Rucker Park in 2006.
In addition, Rashad Vaughn, No. 12 on the ESPN 60 and the top-ranked shooting guard on the list, has been added to the players’ roster.
The Under Armour Slam Dunk Contest and the Under Armour Elite 24 will air live on ESPNU from the Venice Beach outdoor courts in Los Angeles Friday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. ET both days.
