It’s amazing how things have changed in about three months. Before the 2008-09 season, the SLAM preview issue ran five (could have been six) Obama campaign-inspired covers before America elected its first African-American president. Previews, in general, take a shot at predicting what the future may hold. But not even clairvoyants can predict the dynamic, month-to-month changes in the League. Three months ago, there was no legendary Kobe/LeBron MSG experience. Allen Iverson was still wearing baby blue and white. Andrew Bynum was ready to go, back at “110 percent.” Seven now-unemployed coaches still had jobs. The L-Wolves lost games…regularly. The crab dribble was just an obscure term used by real hoop heads. JRich was hiding his prime years behind a Bobcat uniform. And Stephon, for all anyone knew, would play for Mike D’Antoni.

Just three months ago, no one could predict these things. Certainty is inferior to the momentary. That is, unless we’re talking about the Cs and Kevin Garnett. Three months ago, we knew the Celtics would be primed to do it all over again. Of course, they still are.
