David Stern to Seattle: We’re Not Coming Back

by Marcel Mutoni

As Clay Bennett and the people of Seattle continue to battle it out over the Seattle Sonics’ future home address, David Stern has kept quiet (for the most part) about the ugly situation, a decision that has angered many in the basketball community. Yesterday, the Commish spoke out and his comments did little to lift the spirits of Sonics fans:

“I’d love to find a way to keep the team there,” Stern said, “because if the team moves, there’s not going to be another team there, not in any conceivable future plan that I could envision, and that would be too bad.”

In other words: Find a way to keep this team here, or you’ll never have another NBA franchise again.

If there was ever any doubt as to whose side David Stern is on, consider the fact that he’s attending Clay Bennett’s induction into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame as Bennett’s “presenter”.

To their credit, Sonics fans have put up a valiant fight, but for the moment, their team looks good as gone.
