Dirk Nowitzki May Retire at the End of This Season

This may very well be Dirk Nowitzki’s final NBA season.

The 13-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer would like to fulfill the contractual demands of the two-year, $50 million pact he signed with the Mavs this past summer.

A nagging Achilles tendon injury has caused the 38-year-old to sit out 19 of 24 games so far this season.

Per AFP:

“If things don’t go so well and it hurts everywhere, it could be that 2017 will be the end,” the forward told German magazine Sport Bild.

“Actually, my plan is to complete the 20 years and play for Dallas until 2018.

“But just because I have signed a two-year contract doesn’t automatically mean that I will play for two years. It could happen next year.”
