Kevin Seraphin Inks One-Year Deal With the Knicks

Free agent big man Kevin Seraphin is now a New York Knick, having reportedly agreed to a one-year, $2.8 million deal.

Seraphin, 25, averaged 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 79 games with the Washington Wizards last season.

He earned $3.9 million in 2014-15.

Per the WaPo:

The 25-year-old made it clear he wanted more minutes after averaging 15.6 in 79 regular season games as Marcin Gortat’s primary backup and totaling just 72 minutes in the playoffs. The Wizards, however, plan on utilizing small-ball lineups regularly next season – Drew Gooden III and Jared Dudley are expected to man significant minutes at power forward – and having Nene play more center.

The Wizards remained open to bringing back Seraphin, who made $3.9 million last season, since free agency launched on July 1 but their 15-man roster is full. Even if a move was made to clear a vacancy, there probably wouldn’t have been enough playing time to satisfy Seraphin.

A one-year contract in New York allows Seraphin to accrue more minutes in hopes of securing a bigger payday next summer, when the NBA’s new television contract money will flood the free agent market. Robin Lopez is the only other player on the Knicks’ roster listed as a center.
