Kirk Hinrich Re-Signs With the Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls are bringing back free agent veteran guard Kirk Hinrich. Terms of the deal for the 33-year old aren’t yet known. Per the Chicago Tribune:

Hinrich, who has spent nine of his 11 NBA seasons with the Bulls, averaged 9.1 points and 3.9 assists in 73 games last season. He is a favorite of management and coach Tom Thibodeau.

The Bulls view him as an ideal complement for Derrick Rose because he can take defensive and ball-handling responsibilities off Rose’s plate.

Similar to the Bulls’ acquisition of Pau Gasol, the Bulls have negotiated in a range of terms with Hinrich. Until their salary cap picture is set following an imminent trade of Greg Smith and the expected amnesty of Carlos Boozer, Hinrich’s salary is unknown. But it’s for more than the veteran’s minimum, according to a source. The Bulls will have the “room exception” of $2.7 million when the Boozer amnesty becomes official.
