Knicks Trade Ronny Turiaf to the Wizards

In a move intended to help clear enough cap space to enable the Knicks to sign free agent Tyson Chandler, big man Ronny Turiaf has been sent to Washington, most likely for a future Draft pick. The team is also expected to waive point guard Chauncey Billups via the amnesty clause, after which the Chandler signing will be finalized. Here’s the report, courtesy of the NY Post: “The Knicks are in the final stages of sending Ronny Turiaf’s $4.2 million contract to Washington and could be completed tonight, according to sources. That would complete the Tyson Chandler bonanza as the Knicks would have enough room to move under the salary cap after waiving Chauncey Billups by the amnesty clause. The Turiaf trade was the holdup to the deal being official. It does not appear the Knicks would receive anything in return and will likely have to give the Wizards cash to pay for part of his pact. Though the Knicks could get back a trade exception.”
