Kobe Bryant Wanted to Fight Tyronn Lue After Getting His Dunk Blocked in Practice

On the eve of Kobe Bryant’s final trip to Cleveland, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue regaled local reporters Tuesday with memories of his Laker days playing alongside Bean and winning championships in Los Angeles.

The diminutive Lue says that one day in practice, he somehow stuffed a driving Bryant on a dunk attempt, which did not please The Black Mamba to say the least.

Lue says that LeBron James has the same kind of competitive drive that was a hallmark of Kobe’s Hall of Fame career.

Per the Akron Beacon Journal:

Lue has the unique perspective of having played with a young Kobe, an old Michael Jordan and now he’s coaching LeBron James. Lue believes Bryant and Jordan were identical in their approach and their competitive nature even at practice.

“LeBron’s the same way, it’s just they’re more vocal about it,” Lue said. “They’re more demonstrative about it. They’ll get on guys. They’ll cuss guys out. They’ll even fight guys if they have to, so that’s just the difference, but they still all have the same will to win and be able to take control of a game like that.”
