With LeBron James already sitting out, the Cleveland Cavaliers nearly had another star go down Thursday night.
Kyrie Irving banged his left knee into Russell Westbrook, and briefly left the game.
The Cavs are calling a knee contusion, and Irving was able to return to action in the 103-94 road loss.
Per the NOMG:
“I was really concerned,” Irving said after the game. “Definitely felt something buckle. I was really scared.”
As they reached the hallway leading to the locker room, Irving received a pleasant surprise: a half-dressed LeBron. James was watching the game from the locker room and met his teammate halfway down the corridor. […] “It meant a lot, the fact that he sprinted out there in just his tights and a T-shirt,” Irving said while chuckling. “It’s just great. He’s awesome. He just sincerely cares.”
After the Cavaliers’ medical staff evaluated him, the Thunder’s staff did the same. He was diagnosed with a left knee contusion and was cleared to return for the second half. […] “I was really hoping nothing was torn,” he said. “When it happened, I felt something and we did all the test back here and I was thankful. Truly blessed by God that nothing serious happened.”
