LeBron James Ditches Facemask Early

LeBron James says his facemask is too uncomfortable to wear during games, so he got rid of it well before getting clearance from Miami Heat doctors. Per the Palm Beach Post:

“It’s not comfortable,” he said (Sunday) morning before the Heat’s game at Chicago.

Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said Thursday that James is not cleared to play mask-free. Asked if that was still the case, James said, “I’m good.”

James has needed the mask since breaking his nose in a win at Oklahoma City on Feb. 20. He skipped the ensuing game against the Bulls, then wore it four full games before ditching it in the first quarter at San Antonio on Thursday.

He has been annoyed by it the entire time, but said prior to the Spurs game he would probably need it for about another week.
