Mike Woodson, Kelvin Sampson Top Candidates for Pistons Coaching Gig

According to the Detroit News, Woodson and Sampson are leading the pack when it comes to the search for the Pistons’ new head coach: “Although others will be interviewed and considered, Mike Woodson and Kelvin Sampson are the front-runners to become the next Detroit Pistons coach. It was learned Thursday that Pistons president Joe Dumars had received permission to interview Sampson, Celtics assistant Lawrence Frank and former Piston Bill Laimbeer. He didn’t need permission to talk to Woodson, the former Hawks head coach. Sampson and Woodson have the strong leadership qualities Dumars is seeking. Dumars didn’t accompany Scott Perry, the vice president of basketball operations, or George Perry, director of player personnel, on their scouting trip to Spain, Lithuania and Treviso, Italy, which suggests he wants to get moving on the process of hiring a new coach.”
