Pacers GM to Interview for Trail Blazers Job

The Blazers’ GM position has been vacant for nearly a year, and the Comcast Sports Northwest reports that Pacers GM David Morway is among potential candidates. He’ll interview next week, as Blazers plan to fill the front-office position soon: “The Portland Trail Blazers have requested permission to speak with Indiana Pacers’ General Manager, David Morway, about their open GM vacancy and consent was granted according to a source close to the situation. Morway – who has been with the Pacers for 12 years – and Trail Blazers’ President Larry Miller are expected to meet in the next week or so. Considered as Larry Bird’s right-hand man, Morway was promoted to GM in May of 2008 by Bird – who is the Pacers’ President of Basketball Operations – after serving as the team’s Senior Vice President of Basketball Administration. The third seed Pacers are currently up 2-1 to the sixth seed Orlando Magic in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs thanks to the drafting of a promising guard in Paul George, the trade bringing in Darren Collison, the free agent acquisition of David West and George Hill, and the re-signing of Frank Vogel who is one of the top up-and-coming coaches in this league. All of these moves were made under Morway’s watch.”
