Report: LaMarcus Aldridge ‘May Not Even Finish Year With The Spurs’

UPDATE (October 19, 2016): Another report has surfaced saying that Aldridge may be unhappy with his role in the offense and that the recruiting pitch from San Antonio has not come to fruition.

More from My San Antonio‘s Jabari Young:

Those close to the situation suggest Aldridge may not be happy at the moment. The belief is the Spurs pitched him on becoming the center of their offense when they recruited him in 2015, and that hasn’t occurred with the rise of Kawhi Leonard. However, a team source said there are currently no problems with Aldridge, adding he is apart of the Spurs’ future.

The Spurs have come out and said that no trade talks have occurred with any team, according to the San Antonio Express-News:

Spurs sources denied the report, saying no talks have occurred with any team.

This much is certain as the Spurs move forward:

They do not enter 2016-17 with the immediate intention of rebuilding in aftermath of Tim Duncan’s retirement. They did not sign Pau Gasol to a $31 million contract and bring Manu Ginobili back at $14 million with designs on scrapping everything and starting over.

Still, if their season goes unexpectedly south, league sources believe the Spurs might be tempted to investigate what return they might get for Aldridge.

His trade value might never be higher.

Original StoryThe San Antonio Spurs are beginning life without Tim Duncan and may also be saying goodbye to LaMarcus Aldridge.

San Antonio inked Aldridge to a 4-year, $80 million deal last summer, but there are rumblings that the team may be ready to part ways with the All-Star big man already.

Longtime ESPN reporter Jackie MacMullan appeared on Comcast Sports Network New England’s Early Edition and said that she has been hearing that the “[Aldridge] experiment hasn’t quite worked out the way they hoped:”

For instance, sources were telling me the other day that LaMarcus Aldridge may not even finish the year with the Spurs. That experiment hasn’t quite worked out the way they hoped…There’s some stuff going on.
