The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to roll—compiling an NBA-best 28-6 record since Jan. 15—but all anyone seems to want to talk and write about is the fascinating LeBron James-Kevin Love partnership.
Love has had a tough time adjusting to his new role as the third banana in Cleveland, and with the Playoffs and free agency looming, the scrutiny promises to only intensify. James is reportedly frustrated with his star teammate not getting “with the program”.
Love certainly appeared to be on the same page with his squad Wednesday night, helping the visiting Cavs hand the Memphis Grizzlies their worst home loss of the season 111-89.
Per the NY Daily News and NEOMG:
But several sources close to the situation in Cleveland claim that LeBron has tried to make it work but that he’s frustrated by Love’s inability and in some ways unwillingness to get with the program. Remember, LeBron pushed the Cavs to trade Wiggins to the Timberwolves to acquire Love, who could be one and done in Cleveland.
“I think the most important thing is we don’t get too high or get too low,” Kyrie Irving said after leading the team in scoring with 24 points. “We don’t worry about any external things or issues of what’s going on. We take care of our business in the locker room as brothers.”
The Kevin Love Cavalier fans have been waiting for returned to his true form on Wednesday. He went for 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, but it was the way in how he orchestrated. For the first time in a long time he carved up the painted area. He posted up for successful baby hooks, he caught an alley-oop and smashed in a couple of two-handed jams in a half-court sets. He camped out in the interior. He was 10-of-13 from the field and only took four threes, converting on two. […] Immediately after the game, Love video-bombed LeBron James’ postgame interview to say Happy Birthday to his mother Karen. He said he spoke to her the night before and she wished him well in Memphis.
