Report: Pistons’ Reggie Jackson May Miss Extended Time

UPDATE (October 9): Jackson is scheduled to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection on Monday in New York. The point guard underwent the same procedure in 2011. Stan Van Gundy told Aaron McMann from MLive that the starting point guard could miss “a significant amount of time:”

“It’s a significant amount of time,” Van Gundy said. “He’s played a lot of games and a lot of minutes. He has a good confidence in (this procedure) – nothing is forever, but that’s something that worked really for him before. I think he feels good about it.

“That’s a basketball injury that you are always treating and managing. He was trying to do it just with normal treatment and everything, but it just didn’t look like it was getting any better.”

UPDATE (October 5): After practice today, Stan Van Gundy told reporters that Jackson will not have surgery but could miss 6-8 weeks:

Original Story: The Pistons are expected to make noise in the East, but may be missing point guard Reggie Jackson to start the year.

Jackson missed practice on Tuesday with self-described knee tendinitis and ESPN‘s Marc Stein tweeted earlier today that the team could be looking to make a move for another guard:

Jackson has had knee problems since his days at Boston College. While in OKC, the point guard reportedly underwent platelet rich plasma treatment. Detroit head coach Stan Van Gundy didn’t reveal much while talking to reporters and told MLive reporters that that the team will “just have to see” if Jackson will be okay:

“We’ll just have to see,” Van Gundy said. “We’ve got further evaluation with what’s going to need to happen with him. Yeah, we’ll have to see how long and everything else.”

The Pistons signed Ish Smith in the offseason and also have Ray McCallum and Lorenzo Brown on the roster.
