Report: Stan Van Gundy Interested in Coaching the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have begun the process to find a replacement for fired head coach Mark Jackson. Yahoo! Sports reports that there’s mutual interest between Stan Van Gundy and the Warriors:

The former Orlando Magic and Miami Heat coach has interest in the Warriors’ opening, but an interview has yet to be set up. Golden State fired head coach Mark Jackson on Tuesday after three seasons and two playoff appearances. Van Gundy’s interest also speaks to the attractiveness of the Warriors’ job. He has not shown interest in coaching openings with the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, a source said.

Van Gundy had a 371-208 combined record coaching the Heat (2003-05) and Magic (2007-12). The two-time Eastern Conference All-Star coach guided the Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Lakers. He has a career playoff record of 48-39.

Van Gundy was a Bay Area high school star at Alhambra High School in Martinez, Calif., and has been doing some radio color commentary during the NBA playoffs.
