Roy Hibbert Discusses His Early-Season Struggles

Indiana Pacers center is off to a rough start, and he says that it’s no one’s fault but his own. Hibbert thinks he just needs to work through the funk. Per the Indy Star: “The Pacers showed their faith in Hibbert last summer by signing him to $58-million contract with the idea being that he would be their anchor in the middle on both ends of the court for years to come. Hibbert, in turn, has barely been an offensive presence on the court for the struggling Pacers. He’s averaging 8.8 points on 42.6 percent shooting and 7.6 rebounds a game. His season high in points so far is only 14. Those are not All-Star type numbers. Hibbert doesn’t need anybody to tell him he’s struggling. It’s been evident on his face inside the locker room lately. He sits at his locker with his head lowered. Then he stands, answering questions, his voice lowered in disappointment. That’s in stark contrast to the player who routinely enjoys getting fans energized in the game. ‘I’m just not getting it done, not in a rhythm,’ Hibbert said. ‘I feel like I’m getting the shots, but they’re not going in. I’ve got to put in extra work and get it right.’ […] ‘I’m not finishing in the paint the way I want to finish,’ he said. ‘My teammates are doing a good job of getting me the ball.’ It’s those types of performances that have frustrated fans. ‘It’s a funk that I have to get out of,’ Hibbert said. ‘People can say what they want to say. I know they’re going to say things. I know what I’m worth. I know what I can do, it’s just a tough stretch now.'”
