Sixers Honor 1966-67 Championship Team With Alternate Jerseys

The Philadelphia Sixers will hold a season-long celebration of their 1966-67 NBA championship squad, and of course, that means new gear.

Philly unveiled the fresh duds Thursday.

The ā€œSpirit of the Champion: Celebrating 50 Since ā€™66-ā€˜67ā€ campaign will also include center court signage in tribute to the legendary team.

From the press release:

The 1966-67 Sixers team was the most winningest and highest scoring team in Sixers franchise history. Wilt Chamberlain earned the NBAā€™s Most Valuable Player Award while Hal Greer was named All-NBA Second Team. The 1966-67 roster also included NBA legends Billy Cunningham, Chet Walker, Wali Jones, Matt Guokas and more.

ā€œTo win the NBA Championship in 1967 as a young player, and to be a part of such a legendary team with the players like Wilt Chamberlain, Hal Greer, and Chet Walker, and Luke Jackson was such a thrill and something I will never forget,ā€ said Philadelphia 76ers 1966-67 team alumni Billy Cunningham. “That team will forever be one of the greatest of all-time and I am extremely humbled and excited that the Philadelphia 76ers organization chose to celebrate our achievements with fans this season. The Sixers franchise is one of the three greatest in all of professional basketball; we were the team that was really the start of it all.ā€
