The one piece of good news Monday was that Nash was able to participate in some portions of practice, despite leaving Sunday’s loss to Chicago after experiencing the kind of nerve irritation that has sidelined him for all but nine games this season.
Nash said he hopes to play Tuesday, when the Lakers (18-33) host the Utah Jazz (17-33).
“It’s been a tough run,” Nash said. “I’ve had a lot of things to overcome. But you’ve got to have a fighting mentality and spirit and don’t let it get on top of you.”
The 40-year-old point guard dismissed questions about a report from the New York Daily News on Monday that said Nash told friends he would not play beyond this season.
“Right now,” Nash said. “I have no intentions to stop playing.”
“He’ll have to decide that,” D’Antoni said. “He’ll have to feel it in his heart and his head. I’m sure he’s getting good advice. Right now we’re just trying to get to the next game and play well.”
