The Knicks May Hand Stephon Marbury $20 Mil to Leave This Week

by Marcel Mutoni

The day is nigh, Knicks fans. One that you have dreamed about for quite some time now; the day Starbury’s oppressive black cloud will be lifted from the locker room.

According to Newsday, Coney Island’s finest might be looking for a new gig by week’s end:

Several persons with knowledge of the situation have indicated that the Knicks are planning to part ways with Marbury by the end of the week.

One caveat is the approval of Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, who must sign off on yet another multimillion-dollar payoff for his NBA team. Marbury is in the final year of his contract, which is to pay him $21.9 million.

Of course, the Newsday article goes on to gush about all of the positive things Marbury has been doing this summer – working out fiendishly, avoiding embarrassing interviews, etc. – but the smart money is on there being a fire sale on #3 jerseys in the MSG gift shop very soon.

Based on how things went when he joined his teammates in workouts for the first time yesterday, I hope Steph isn’t counting on getting a farewell party thrown for him: “You could just feel the hate.”
