The Never-Ending Sadness in Minnesota

Few things are more depressing in this world than reading game recaps from the Minny papers. The Star Tribune has the latest tear-jerker: “Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis prefers ‘process’ to describe how a young, inexperienced team learns to win in the NBA. Another ‘P’ word applied on Monday night, after his team blew an eight-point lead with little more than two minutes remaining and lost 113-110 at Charlotte. ‘Painful,’ Wolves forward Kevin Love said. He could have been referring to his bruised quadricep, which he grasped in alarming agony on the floor during the final seconds. But that should heal soon enough. ‘I’m fine,’ he said. ‘I just will be walking with a limp the rest of the night.’ The Wolves might not be able to walk off the damage done by the Bobcats’ decisive, final 13-4 flourish that left veteran guard Sebastian Telfair and rookie Wes Johnson both sitting motionless and speechless for more than a moment in the team’s locker room afterward. Telfair, his full game uniform still on, was hunched over in a chair, head down, his eyes staring at his feet. ‘I feel like crying right now,’ Telfair said. ‘Not that that would do any good.’ Johnson leaned back — his jersey top off, his gaze fixated on the ceiling. He had missed the first of a pair of free throws that would have tied the score with 3.5 seconds left. ‘Sad,’ he said. ‘We had a game won, on the road.'”
