The Redeem Team Is in a Vengeful Mood

by Marcel Mutoni

The last time Team USA faced off against the Greeks, it ended with the victors dancing on the court, and their fellow countrymen dancing in the streets. It was a painful moment for USA Basketball and a blow to the ego of many supporters of the sport on this continent.

The team that was assembled with the singular goal in mind being to put America back on top of the hoops world will have its chance at revenge against the Greeks tomorrow, and from the sounds of it, they can hardly wait to hit the court.

From the Washington Post:

“I don’t think LeBron is going to get any sleep,” Anthony said. “They’ve been talking about this game since [training camp in Las] Vegas. I’m going to get some sleep, but I’ll tell you what: That’s the game I got marked on my calendar. It’s been circled on my calendar for two years — since we left Japan.”

“You never forget,” forward Chris Bosh said. “We want to get them back. We were really young, and I think a lot of us have grown and matured since then, and gotten stronger.”

So, yeah, this one should be a rather competitive affair. With revenge on their minds, it’ll certainly be interesting to see just how far Team USA has come since 2006, and what lessons they learned from humbling defeats on the international stage.
