Warriors’ Marreese Speights on Wizards: ‘We Knew If We Hit Them…They Would Quit’

by March 24, 2015

It got ugly for the Wizards during last night’s 107-76 drubbing at the hands of the Warriors. The Wizards hit only one field goal in the entire third quarter during Tuesday’s L, and the Warriors talked a bit of trash following the game. According to Ben Standig of CSN Washington, Warriors big man Marreese Speights thought Washington quit during the third quarter:

“We just turned up a little,” reserve center Marreese Speights said of Golden State’s defense to reporters following the win. “We knew if we hit them, if we got a couple stops they would start arguing with each other and quit. We went out there with a good mindset in the second half and we did it.”

The Wizards finished 1 of 18 from the field during the third quarter. After missing their first 15 attempts, Kevin Seraphin’s short hook shot with 1:02 remaining in the period ended the drought. Outscored 29-8, Washington went from trailing 52-49 at halftime to down 24 points entering the fourth quarter.

The Wizards are 40-31, but have struggled down the stretch of this season. Will they be able to get it together in time for the playoffs?
