Worthy of Your Attention

This is the kind of game that fair-weather fans, the kind that get most of their nightly hoop fix from the Sportscenter Top 10, despise. But if you know and love the game, it’s an absolute treat. Two great teams, in a rematch of the 2005 Finals, going at it on national television. What more could you want?

The Pistons are an angry bunch these days, stinging from two big losses to the Celtics and Mavs. The one and only Rasheed Wallace, frustrated by the team’s play of late and a lack of touches, sounds like he’s just about ready to maim someone, so look for him to have a huge game tonight. Detroit as a whole has a lot to prove as they continue their journey through Texas.

The Spurs, on the other hand, are quietly taking care of business as usual. They’ve been nearly unbeatable at home (17-2), and with everyone getting healthy, they’re just about primed for a long winning streak. Tonight would be a good start.

Even though San Antonio is extremely tough at home, I expect an angry Detroit team to pull this one out and remind everyone that they could be back on this same floor in June.

Prediction: Pistons (98) – Spurs (94)
