Celtics Coach Brad Stevens on University of Texas Rumor: ‘I’ll Be in Boston’

The University of Texas’ search for a new head coach has drawn plenty of speculation, which includes a report that Brad Stevens is potentially a candidate for the gig.

The Celtics’ bench boss says he’s perfectly happy in Beantown, thank you very much.

C’s president Danny Ainge understands that his coach is a hot commodity, but he’s not sweating it.

Per the Boston Globe and CBS Boston:

Stevens is under contract with the Boston Celtics through the 2018-19 NBA season, but that has not stopped speculation tying him to top college basketball coaching jobs around the country. Seth Davis of CBSSports mentioned Stevens’ name when discussing possible coaching candidates for coaching vacancy created when the University of Texas parted ways with Rick Barnes.

Stevens, who twice took Butler to the Final Four before coming to Boston, was asked before Wednesday’s game against the Pacers about interest from Texas. […] “I’ll be in Boston,” he responded. “I’ve committed to being here,” he said. “I’ve already left a situation once and that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to choose to do. This is something that as long as they want me to be here, this is what I want to be doing and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”

“Brad’s not considering college. Brad is with the Celtics and … it’s just talk. It’s just talk out there,” Ainge said. “When coaching jobs open up, of course there’s a lot of people that would love to have interest in Brad, but I’m not even sure that there’s been any contact. I think it’s just mostly talk.” […] “I certainly understand it,” Ainge said. “It’s a compliment to Brad. He’s a well-known coach, a well-liked and respected coach around college and NBA circles, so I’m sure we’ll continue to hear that kind of stuff every year. But Brad’s with us, and that’s that.”
