Duke Lands Top-5 Recruit Wendell Carter Jr

After narrowing his college list down to Duke, Harvard, Georgia Tech and Georgia, Wendell Carter Jr, a 6-10 center out of Pace Academy in Atlanta, GA, decided to make a verbal commitment to the Blue Devils on Wednesday morning. His decision comes as no surprise, as it was the expected school of choice for a while. When top-15 recruit Gary Trent Jr., a 6-5 shooting guard at Prolific Prep in Napa, CA, who also happens to be one of Carter’s most closest friends, committed to Duke a couple of weeks ago, it all but confirmed that the big man out of the ATL would end up in Durham. For months, Carter and Trent had both spoken publicly about their desire to play together in college.

We spent time with Carter a couple of months ago, where he spoke about the importance that academics have played in his life, which explains why Harvard made his final-four list. In the end, Duke offered superior academics, superior basketball and a chance to play with one of his best friends.
