Two Oakland University basketball players have been reinstated after a violation of team rules.

Senior guard Duke Mondy and junior forward Dante Williams were suspended for the team’s third and fourth games of the year after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted by the two players on November 14. However, Mondy and Williams were released after no charges were filed.

The two players are major contributors to the Golden Grizzlies. Mondy is a starting guard and averages 10.5 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game, while Williams comes off the bench.

From The Detroit News:

“I am at issue with the moral connotations of what occurred, but I work at a public institution where diverse beliefs and ideals are accepted,” Oakland coach Greg Kampe said in a statement released by the university. “It is the consequences of their actions while representing this university that must be addressed.

” … The entire team will be going through a series of behind-the-scenes workshops and training sessions to address not only this incident, but also additional life skills. The mission of this basketball program is and always has been to educate student-athletes, and that education process needs to be in addition to academics.”

Both Mondy and Williams will play on Saturday when the Bears take on Louisiana-Lafayette. The team is 0-4, but they boast arguably the toughest schedule in the country, having played four road games against North Carolina, UCLA, California and Gonzaga.
