OK State Signs Five-Star Recruit Marcus Smart

Travis Ford made a splash for Oklahoma State on Saturday locking up a pair of highly touted teammates from Flower Mound in Texas, including five-star shooting guard Marcus Smart. Joining Smart will be Phil Forte, a 5-10 shooting guard with a great touch from the outside.

Smart, though, is the bigger prize of the two. Ranked No. 11 among all 2012 high school prospects by ESPNU, Smart was also considering Oklahoma, Texas and North Carolina. At Flower Mound, Smart and Forte won two state titles.

The two players wanted to play together in college and got their wish on Saturday.

From Star Local News:

“It’s a big relief,” Smart added. “Phil and I visited and sat down and prayed and it just felt right. Getting a chance to continue playing with Phil played a major role in my decision.”

Adding the two teammates is yet another step in the right direction for Oklahoma State. This fall LeBryan Nash, ranked No. 10 by ESPNU for the class of 2011, will be joining the Cowboys, and if he sticks around for next season, Ford’s team will have a strong, young core.
