Report: Rockets to Retire Yao Ming’s Jersey

According to multiple reports, Yao Ming is set to join a group of Hall of Famers that have their numbers retired by the Rockets. The Big Man just got inducted into the Hall of Fame and now it appears that he’ll be getting another honor very soon.

CBS Houston is reporting that Yao will be the sixth Rocket whose jersey will hang in the rafters, joining Hakeem Olajuwon, Moses Malone, Clyde Drexler, Calvin Murphy and Rudy Tomjanovich. Here’s more from CBS:

According to the report the Rockets plan to hold the ceremony close to the Chinese Lunar New Year which will be near the end of January 2017. With the Rockets on the road during the end of the Lunar Year, the Rockets could likely hold the ceremony with a January 20th home game against the Golden State Warriors or upon their return at some point during a three game homestand against the Sacramento Kings (Jan. 30), Atlanta Hawks (Feb. 2) or Bulls (Feb. 3).

Yao played all nine years of his NBA career with the Rockets. He averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds in 486 games.
