German Coach Confident Dirk Will Be Back

“I don’t think he is done.”

Germany coach Dirk Bauermann has said that Dirk Nowitzki will play for Germany once again, following the squad’s 84-75 defeat to the hosts Lithuania on Sunday at the Siemens Arena, Vilnius.

The NBA Finals MVP, though, remains undecided whether he will continue to play for his home country.

After a grueling NBA season, followed with the travel to Lithuania for EuroBasket, it seemed that it all finally caught up with the 7-footer, as he shot just 24 percent from the floor, scoring 16 points.

“He is the most wonderful person to be around,” Bauermann said at the post-game press conference.

“After winning the NBA championship, obviously he wasn’t rested and I think that 99% of NBA players playing in Europe would play under these circumstances.”

Coach Bauermann seemed confident that Nowitzki would play for the national team again.

“If you want to know what my gut feeling is, I think he will [Dirk] come back, I don’t think he is done. I think he’ll play for Germany again.”

Germany will miss out on next year’s Olympic Games in London following the loss.
